F.Y.B.O. (Freeze Your Balls Off) Apps are out. If you have not received yours yet contact a member and get it. This ride year looks to be a great one if the planning and destination for F.Y.B.O. is any example. We are going to have a fun year Men.
Shakedown 2007 It was a dark and stormy night. Honest! You can ask any of the dozen or so waterlogged bikers who gathered at John Hatley’s country home in North Texas on March 30 for Battalion’s 2007 Shakedown Ride. Hatley’s laundry dryer got a heavy workout as many of the drenched riders and buddies stripped out of wet gear before settling into familiar biker banter, drinks and dinner of salad, meatloaf and potatoes. Having braved the storm, they were soon ready to hit the air mattresses and sleeping bags scattered throughout the house. Morning brought clear skies, perfect motorcycling weather and a few additional riders who had waited out the storm, so after a breakfast of sausage and egg casserole, biscuits and fruit compote, two formations wound their way through the twisty-turnies of FM898, Hwy 78 and other Texas back roads to Emory for lunch at popular Don’s Café. The final run past Lake Tawakoni, and Eustace led both formations to The Circle J Ranch where the camp-out part of the event inspired setting up a lot of tents, a bonfire, more drinks and dinner of grilled pork loin, salad and Italian green beans with carrots. Action around the camp fire got a bit festive later. The weather Sunday was still perfect for everyone to return to their homes. The only incident of the weekend besides the Friday storms as on Saturday when Hatley’s Yamaha cruiser quit, probably due to bad gas, and he had to call his partner to come running with a trailer. He arrived at the Ranch later in a car. FYBO 2007 Seven motorcyclists and one buddy rider weathered the cool temperatures of early March for Battalion’s annual Freeze Your Balls Off ride for hearty souls equipped to stay warm on the road. Participants gathered the evening of March 2nd at the Lost Pines home of members Paul M. and Mike W. near Bastrop, Texas, where Paul, ever the perfect host, cooked dinner Friday and Saturday night. Everyone chipped in to reimburse for food and drink expenses since FYBO is a Dutch treat ride. Saturday, after breakfast at Bastrop’s Texas Grill, the group rode the twisty back roads to finally arrive in Austin for tours of the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum and the state capitol. Lunch at the famous Shultz’ Beer Garden and the ride back to Lost Pines rounded out the planned activities of the event. Commander Larry V. used the occasion of after dinner drinks to present Paul with the first-ever designation of Past Vice Commander. Saturday night temperatures dropped into the low thirties, so departing riders bundled up Sunday morning to ride home in ideal FYBO weather, cold and dry. 3/6/07 John H. The Battalion Motorcycle CorpsMuster 2007 convened at the Crossroads Campground in remote Desdemona, TX on Saturday, January 20. Attendees from Texas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee braved hyped reports of snow and ice to arrive Friday night to a home-cooked dinner of chicken and dumplings served by Crossroads' hospitable staff. The weather was less than warm and far from dry, so the evening was spent in the cozy comfort of Crossroads' main meeting building amid a circle of cigar smoke, the clinking of poker chips, and the sometimes boisterous bravado of brotherhood. Saturday was absorbed in business items such as setting the 2007 calendar which you can peruse here on Battalion's new improved website. Jeff served breakfast and lunch and as a parting treat, Larry's husband John donated a pot roast dinner followed by more Texas Hold 'Em and Scotch. A certain Vice-Commander who was heard to say "I've never played this game before" cleaned the table in short order. Sunday morning, the clouds broke making for a sunny departure after another hearty breakfast by the Crossroads' guys. Battalion enjoyed the venue so much that consideration has been given to returning there in the future for runs and meetings. Joe's boy jon1/21/07 |
